Sustainability

Our responsibility

Sustainability is part of our brand identity

Right from the start, Riders Denim will give a percentage of our earnings back to the sport. We'll support clubs who work actively with the well-being of their horses as well as their riders. Clubs who create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, secure and accepted. An environment where everyone is allowed to feel good, grow as a person and build the confidence they need to realize their dreams.

Every year, equestrian clubs can apply based on the important work that they do in welcoming more people – whoever they are and wherever they from – to this sport. This is our contribution to bring wellbeing for more people around us.

Riders Denim will work with sustainability as a part of our core business. Our sustainability work starts in SDG and we focus on three main areas based on analyses of how we can and should contribute to these goals.

The Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to serve as a "shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future".[1][2][3] The SDGs are: no povertyzero hungergood health and well-beingquality educationgender equalityclean water and sanitationaffordable and clean energydecent work and economic growthindustry, innovation and infrastructurereduced inequalitiessustainable cities and communitiesresponsible consumption and productionclimate actionlife below waterlife on landpeace, justice, and strong institutions; and partnerships for the goals. The SDGs emphasize the interconnected environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development by putting sustainability at their center.[4]

The SDGs were formulated in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which sought to create a future global development framework to succeed the Millennium Development Goals, which ended that year. They were formally articulated and adopted in a UNGA resolution called the 2030 Agenda, known colloquially as Agenda 2030.[5] On 6 July 2017, the SDGs were made more "actionable" by a UNGA resolution that identifies specific targets for each goal and provides indicators to measure progress.[6] Most targets are to be achieved by 2030, although some have no end date.[7]

Our three focus areas

1. Working for equality, equality and diversity.

This area means that Riders Denim will actively work to encourage riders to go their own way, to dare to be themselves and to feel good just as you are. This will happen through:

  • Design of personal and bold clothes.
  • Communication that shows courage, personality and joy.
  • Riders Denim will give back (contribute part of its turnover) to the riding clubs that make it possible for more people to take part in this sport which includes everyone and which is proven to promote good mental health in everyone - young and old. The clubs also create community and develop leadership skills in the practitioners (of whom over 90% are young girls).
  • The value for society will be increased mental health, more female leaders, that gender equality is lifted in a today rather conservative industry, which creates debate and hopefully change.

2. To get involved in the local community

This area means that Riders Denim will actively engage with the local community. This will happen through:

  • To invite those active in equestrian sports to participate and develop products so that they better meet their demand and needs. In this collaboration, issues such as diversity and equality will also be raised.
The stakeholders will be able to participate and influence the products and their properties, which will meet their needs better.

3. To work for circular solutions and sustainable use of resources

This area means that Riders Denim will actively work for circular solutions and sustainable use of resources. This will happen through:

  • Requirements will be placed on selected producers, based on gender equality, the environment and human rights. Right now, we're partnering with a denim supplier who works hard to be at the forefront of sustainable choices. This is a very conscious choice on our part. https://iskodenim.com/sustainability
  • We strive to have producers in Europe to reduce transport and to gain greater transparency in production. In the start-up, we will have suppliers both in Europe and in Asia.
  • From the start, we will collaborate with transport suppliers who are at the forefront of sustainable solutions. In the long term, different transport solutions for customers will be chosen based on environmental footprint.
  • Our deliveries will of course be packed in environmentally friendly packaging.
  • Make the customer aware of the value of the right transport, materials, production and sustainable products.
  • By developing sustainable products both in terms of quality/time, choice of materials, production method and transport.

The value for society will be a smaller environmental footprint, enlightened consumers who consciously make better choices.

Do more

As a start-up we have both opportunities to do things right from the start but sometimes we need to up-scale to be able to do more. But for sure we will always try to do more, and as we grow we will always grow with sustainability at heart.
